Guangdong Museum (廣東省博物館)

Rebirth in China: Canton Enamel Special Exhibition (臻于完美——廣琺瑯特展)

Canton enamel was the exclusive luxury of the royal family and aristocracy in the early days, which later took root in the private sector and was then sold domestically and re-exported, becoming a famous export commodity. It is the first time that the museum has launched a special exhibition on Canton enamel, displaying more than 120 pieces of enamel for use by the palace and ordinary people and for export.

Vanity: Stories of Jewelry in the Cyclades (瞻彼星辰——希臘珠寶首飾文化展)

The exhibition displays a wide range of ornaments from simple, beaded jewels made of shell, bone and ivory to lavish accessories, such as earrings, bracelets and rings in gold, silver and bronze decorated with precious and semi-precious stones, faience, coral and glass.

Hustle and Bustle: the Age of Dinosaurs (群龍出沒——恐龍時代大穿越)

Dinosaurs and reptiles that lived hundreds of millions of years ago once ruled the land, sea and sky for a long time. The mystery about them always brings people endless thinking. Enjoy a wonderful journey back to the Dinosaur Ages at the dinosaur exhibition.

The Route of the Sea: Nanhai No. 1 Shipwreck and Maritime Trade in the Southern Song Dynasty (大海道——“南海1號”沉船與南宋海貿)

Nanhai No. 1 Shipwreck was an ocean-going trading merchant ship with a large hull and relatively complete preservation. The exhibition is based on more than 400 items and relics retrieved from the shipwreck and items from the Southern Song Dynasty. The cultural relics include ceramics, gold, silver, precious stones, metalware, tablet inscriptions, animal and plant specimens, etc.

Elegant & Vogue: Chinese Export Fans in the 18th-20th Centuries (風·尚——18至20世紀中國外銷扇)

This exhibition shows 163 Chinese fans exported from the 18th to 20th century. Fans were once regarded as indispensable garment ornaments by women in Europe. The export fan was a kind of export handicraft which emerged under the background of the maritime trade between China and the West in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Chinese craftsmen, especially Guangzhou craftsmen, combined the Cantonese craftsmanship with Western aesthetics and created a large number of fans for export. These exquisite fans were relatively cheap, which greatly satisfied the keen desire and demand in the Western market. Therefore, "made in Canton" has become a well-known brand throughout the world.

Titanic (泰坦尼克文物精品展)

The exhibition showcases artifacts recovered at the ruins of the sunken Titanic. You can appreciate the restored model of the ship and about 300 artifacts. Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in the early morning of April 15, 1912, after colliding with an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City, killing more than 1,500.

Sailing The Seven Seas : Legend of Ming Maritime Trade during Wanli Era (牽星過洋——萬歷時代的海貿傳奇)

Set against the background of sea voyages and supported by the latest underwater archaeological discoveries (such as the artifacts recovered from the Nan’ao I and Wanli shipwrecks as well as Ming Dynasty ceramics unearthed from Penny’s Bay in Lantau and Wun Yiu in Tai Po of Hong Kong), this exhibition explores the development of maritime trade during this Ming Dynasty.

Lost Silver Reappears: Exhibition of Archaeological Discoveries from the Jiangkou Battlefield (沉銀重現——四川江口古戰場遺址考古成果展)

The exhibition showcases more than 500 pieces of precious cultural relics found at the ancient battlefield site of Jiangkou. The Jiangkou Battlefield in Pengshan, Sichuan is one of the top ten new archaeological discoveries in China in 2017. With over 42,000 cultural relics discovered, it is a major archaeological discovery in the history of Ming and Qing dynasties in this century.

Appealing to Nose: Secrets of Smell and Culture in Fragrance (鼻尖上的喜悅——嗅覺的秘密與香文化)

Combining scientific knowledge and traditional Chinese culture, the exhibition displays various olfactory systems and specimens of animals living in different environments, such as butterflies, pythons, Yangtze alligators, and polar bears.

Decoding: The Chinese Landscape Painting (解密中國傳統山水畫)

The exhibition explains the origin, techniques, aesthetics, functions and development of landscape painting. The exhibition assembles about 130 pieces of calligraphy, paintings, mineral specimens, ceramics, jades, ancient books and many other cultural relics.

Armando: Between Abstraction and Reality (意象之間——荷蘭藝術家阿曼多作品展)

The exhibition displays over 70 of Armando’s paintings, sculptures and traditional Chinese landscape paintings. Armando is one of the greatest Dutch artists after the Second World War. His works touch upon various sources of inspiration, including poems, novels, plays, and documentaries.

Style and Craftmanship in Guangfu Furniture (粵匠神工——廣作家具特展)

About 120 pieces of furniture and related items collected by the Guangdong Museum and the Palace Museum are displayed in this exhibition. It reviews the history of Guangdong furniture and the exquisite craftsmanship involved in its manufacture.

Flowers Nod to Winds of Spring: A Special Exhibition Embracing the New Year (花語@春風——廣東美術館迎春花木主題特展)

Known as the ‘Flower City’ because of its blooming flowers all year round, Guangzhou is home to a unique ‘flower culture’. The exhibition is based on a collection of flowers and woods, plus modern art works of flowers including sculpture and interactive multimedia.

Ding Liren’s Solo Exhibition: A Southbound Trip of the Journey to the West (西游南行——丁立人個展)

Ding Liren, China’s famous contemporary painter and folk art expert, works in coloured ink, sculpture, paper-cut and other mediums. He combines both Chinese and foreign folk arts such as traditional engraving, stone carving and murals, and has formed his own artistic style. The exhibition encompasses over one hundred works from his Journey to the West series.

Consciousness of Borders (邊界的自覺)

The consciousness of artists creates a cross-culture and cross-subject art form. Organized by the Guangdong Museum of Arts, the exhibition invites 21 cross-border artists to discuss the infinite possibilities brought by the collision of art and design and consciousness of borders.

Exhibition of Excellent Works and Institute History Research in Commemoration of 60th Anniversary of the Guangdong Art Institute (廣東畫院建院60周年優秀作品展暨院史研究展)

In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Guangdong Art Institute, the exhibition will features more than 400 masterpieces by over 200 artists as well as about 2,000 original manuscripts. You will be able to view ink wash, oil, and watercolor paintings, as well as woodblock prints and calligraphy put into a timeline, bringing the history of the Institute to life.

No. 7 Space: ‘The Third Field’ Zhang Haichao’s Solo Exhibition (7號空間 | 第三域——張海超個展)

The exhibition provides an ‘illusion’ that surpasses reality through virtual media, and will bring you a new way of thinking about technology, life and yourself in the environment. Artist Zhang Haichao obtained his bachelor's degree from the Art Education Department of the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, and his master's degree from the Higher Institute of Fine Arts of Besan?on in France.
